HARBOR POLE YELLOW BUOY

WELLFLEET BEACH SAND DUNE
Winter winds blow hard and cold in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, drying out the ground cover. Wellfleet is a small town beyond the bend, heading towards the tip on Cape Cod, USA. Nearly seventy percent of the land is under protection, with about half being part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The area extends the width of the Cape, bordered by Cape Cod Bay to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The dunes are on the windswept Atlantic side.

CAPE COD ROCKY SHORELINE
Cape Cod, USA is lined with swimming saltwater beaches. Beyond the rocky shoreline at Surf Drive Beach, is Falmouth Heights. The infamous, yearly summer road race winds past this beach, ending on the far side of the distant houses.

LECOUNT HOLLOW BEACH CAPE COD
Lecount Hollow Beach, also known as Maguire’s Landing, in Wellfleet on Cape Cod, USA is cold and windy during the winter. The beach lies on the Atlantic Ocean side of Wellfleet near the end of the Cape.

SEA OATS BEACH PATH
A white sandy path meanders through tall sea oat grasses swaying in the breeze under a bright blue sky. Shadows fall across the opening between the clusters of the tall grasses with contrasting colors of the gold, green and white sand. The tranquil, inviting scene is part of Fort De Soto Park in Tampa Bay, Florida, prior to Hurricanes Milton and Helene.

TRUCKEE MARSH OPEN WATER
One of the Upper Truckee Marsh channels is close to meeting up with Lake Tahoe in the California, USA city of South Lake Tahoe. The Upper Truckee Marsh has a number of water channels and the Upper Truckee River, flowing toward the lake. The marsh, one of the Sierra Nevada’s largest wetlands, is comprised of over six-hundred acres in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

LAKE TAHOE THROUGH TREETOPS
From high on a mountain above Lake Tahoe can be seen the shoreline of the city of South Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, California, USA. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. It sits just over 6,200 feet above sea level and measures 22 miles long, 12 miles wide, with about 72 miles of shoreline. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, the pristine lake with crystal water lies about two-thirds in California and one-third Nevada.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE SHORELINE CONSERVATION
Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. It sits just over 6,200 feet above sea level and measures 22 miles long, 12 miles wide, with about 72 miles of shoreline. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, the pristine lake with crystal water lies about two-thirds in California and 1/3 Nevada. The sandy shoreline and adjacent wetlands in South Lake Tahoe are home to a vast array of plant and wildlife species.

DEVILS SLIDE SLOPE
A winding road curves sharply along a steep cliffside, flanked by cautionary road signs warning of a 9% grade. The overcast sky looms above, casting a dramatic backdrop over the rugged landscape. The Devil's Slide Coastal Trail between Pacifica and Montara is a 1.3-mile paved pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian winding road trail that hugs the rugged California coastline, leading through dramatic cliffs. The ocean stretches out from the coast in the vast natural landscape. Formerly part of Highway 1 it became in 2014 a non-vehicle, multi-use, recreational trail. Landslides and erosion on the steep, rugged cliffs necessitated a vehicular traffic through tunnel be constructed slightly inland

DEVIL'S SLIDE TRAIL

The wind and weather can blow hard, but the scenery is stunning and well worth the awe-inspiring traversing adventure

The Pacific Ocean crashes onto the jagged shoreline of the Sutro District, at the western edge of San Francisco, California.

BOAT HARBOR HALF MOON BAY
Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay, California is in San Mateo County. The port area is protected from fierce ocean storms by a larger outer and a smaller inner riprap breakwater system.

PACIFICA CALIFORNIA SHORELINE
The beaches of Pacifica, California, USA are surrounded by steep hills and large, weather worn boulders. Strong winds and tides batter the shoreline. Whales can often be seen traveling these waters.

SAN FRANCISCO WATERFRONT FROM COIT TOWER
The California historic waterfront docks neighborhood along The Embarcadero, edges up to San Francisco Bay. The Central Embarcadero Piers Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The view is from the top of Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill. The Bay Bridge spans the distance beneath the clouds.

PACIFICA SAND AND FOAM
Pacifica, California is a seaside city in San Mateo County, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. Pacifica runs along a six-mile stretch of coastal beaches and hills. SEA FOAM, also known as spume, beach foam or sea foam is a type of foam created when seawater is agitated, particularly when concentrations of dissolved organic matter (proteins, fats, dead algae) are higher. These substances can act as foaming agents or surfactants.

PACIFICA CLIFFS OCENA VIEW
Pacifica, California is a seaside city in San Mateo County, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. Pacifica runs along a six-mile stretch of coastal beaches and hills. It is made up of several small valleys spread between Montara Mountain to the south, Sweeney Ridge to the east, and the Pacific Ocean's cliffs to the west.

PACIFICA CLIFF APARTMENTS DEMISE
Due to rugged Pacific coast weather, the apartments on the cliffs of the coastal town of Pacifica, succumbed to the elements. They were abandoned and have been completely removed from the cliff before falling to the beach below. Pacifica is just south of San Francisco, California.

PACIFICA COAST TREES
Wind and stormy weather whip across the hills in the seaside town of Pacifica, California, USA on the side of the Pacific Ocean. Trees grow bent and broken from the ferocity of the weather hitting the coastal landscape.

PACIFICA COAST MEADOW
Just off the beach in Pacifica, California below rolling hills, is a windswept meadow with gnarled trees. Heavy fog creeps in over the misty landscape from the cold ocean water of the Pacific.

GLENN ALPINE CREEK WATERSHED
Glen Alpine Creek, South Lake Tahoe, California in July. The creek meanders its way down from a higher elevation to Lily Lake and onward to Fallen Leaf Lake. It is part of what was once a vast area the indigenous Washoe (Washo) people inhabited. In the mid 1800's settlers came in. It became part of an area known as Lake Tahoe Forest Preserve established in 1899, now known as Desolation Wilderness established in 1969. The ridge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains runs through here.

HIKING FOGGY SWEENEY RIDGE TRAIL PACIFICA
Sweeney Ridge's summit rises 1,200 feet above sea level. The conservation area lies between San Bruno and Pacifica, California. It is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Many trails traverse the ridges and ravines overlooking Pacifica and San Fransisco Bay. The area originally was homeland to the indigenous Ramaytush Ohlone people.

JUNIPER TREE SEIRRA NEVADA RANGE
A twisted juniper tree stands prominently against a backdrop of mountainous terrain and clear blue sky. The landscape features a mix of rocky ground and evergreen vegetation at an approximate elevation of 6400 feet. It presents a striking resilience within the Sierra Nevada mountains in the South Lake Tahoe, California, USA area. The ecological landscape is found in the mid to upper montane forest region, a stratified alpine zone with lower temperatures as elevation increases.

CHAPPAQUIDDICK ISLAND FOOTPATH
Chappaquiddick Island is a small island off the east end of the island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA. Historically the islands have often been connected. Depending on storms and ocean activity, a narrow barrier beach connects and conversely breaks apart these two land masses.
